Professor Janusz Bialek (FIEEE) is the Associate Director of Center for Energy Systems at Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) in Moscow. Before joining Skoltech in 2014, he held Chair positions at the University of Edinburgh (2003-2009) and Durham University (2009-2014). Janusz’s main research interest is in application of advanced mathematical methods to power systems. He has published widely on power system dynamics, smart grids, preventing electricity blackouts, power markets, and technical and economic integration of renewable generation in power systems. He has been the Principal Investigator of a number of major research grants and a consultant to the UK government, International Energy Agency, European Commission, Scottish Government, and a number of power companies.

Dr. Wilhelm Winter

Wilhelm Winter received the M.S. degree and the Doctor degree in Power Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin in 1995 and 1998 respectively. From 1995 to 2002 he was with Siemens, working in the department for protection development and in the system planning department. He was involved in large system studies including stability calculations, HVDC and FACTS optimizations, Modal Analysis, transient phenomena, real-time simulation and renewable energy systems. He was responsible for the development of the NETOMAC Eigenvalue Analysis program. Since 2002, he has been working at TenneT TSO GmbH as Expert on HVDC Overlay Grid Design & System Security. Since 2010, he is leading the Innovative System Design team.
